Century Space ¡¤ Dwelling Art
Charming Shanghai ¡¤ Poetic Residence

I. Brief Introduction

With the theme ¡°century space, dwelling art¡° and ¡°charming Shanghai, poetic residence¡°, Shanghai (Anteing New Town) Interior Design Exhibition will be grandly held in Shanghai Everbright Convention & Exhibition Center from Oct.1 to 5 in 2003.

Today, either ¡°dwelling¡° or ¡°housing¡° has become the key word to understand the new developing course of Chinese cities. This is drawing worldwide attentions, dramatically reflected in Shanghai. The ways to really improve people¡®s living condition and the quality of the housing environment have become a hot topic in the professionals as well as the focus of humanities concern in the new century. Built in Shanghai in the 21st century, Anting New Town is not only the first one following the concept ¡°one city and nine towns¡°, but also the pioneering experimental unit to realize new urbanism. A great number of new town plans offered by top-level designers home and abroad, especially from German, are collected in Anting New Town. With a belief of ¡°pursuing excellence¡°, the town has made the blueprint of striving for building the ideal home which will lead the way in the world, and highlights the theme of culture and artistic character. And the conception ¡°Shanghai (Anting New Town) Interior Design Exhibition¡° is conceived and takes shape under this background.

The exhibition is jointly held by Shanghai international Automobile City Co. (Anting New Town) and Fine Arts College of Shanghai University. This is the first time we try to connect practice with academic study of interior design concerning living space and business space. On one side, on the base of promising time that Anting new town¡®s  developments in the new century supplies, it provide a practical flat for interior designers at home and abroad, encourage different participants to bring their talents and potentials into full play, and offer beneficial references to relevant fields of Anting new town. On the other side, in the ever-changing design fields, the exhibition will upgrade the designers at home and abroad to the front of interior design, push the participants fully display their design arts concept through their on-spot displaying. At the same time it will explore the latest interior design concept to construct an academic flat and provide a free, exploring and creative arts environment on the purpose of obtaining the newest achievements.

A city without concept is just like a body without spirit. The perfect city pattern also needs the same perfect and opening artistic spirit. Art, which builds a modern and prosperous Shanghai with its magic power, can also originally and ¡°fantastically¡° construct an Anting New Town that will make us pleasantly surprised and look at it with new eyes.

¡°Shanghai (Anting New Town) Interior Design Exhibition¡° will be an important activity in which the designers will extend the expectation and imagination from their point of views. Also the exhibition will cooperate with artists to further develop and perfect their ideas so as to make the Anting New Town become a new pride in the urban development of Shanghai, and to blend the human spirit, artistic atmosphere, and naturalism into the modern life of this town¡£The exchange and conflict among different design ideas will help the exhibition held in a novel and unique way. Anting New Town will become an ideal spiritual homeland for its doers.
