By July 13 2007, the preliminary screening came to a successful conclusion. After five months of calling for entries, this year's event has drawn more attention and attracted more participations compared to the previous sessions. The biggest step forward this year is that the Dongguan Awards obtains the endorsement from ICSID. 

The calling for entries of the preliminary screening ended up by July 15. All together there received 2432 items of design works from China, Australia, India, Brazil, Singapore, etc. Among them, more than 40 items came from overseas. In the open group, including free topic group and given topic group, there were 1996 items for free topic group entries, 1059 items of electronic information products, 514 items of machinery products, 423 items of toy products; and there were 436 items for given topic group entries, 96 items of TFT-LCD monitor design, 129 items of all-in-one PC-TV all-in-one, and 211 items of body fat measurement instrument.

After careful selection, jurors screened out 217 items as qualified entries for the first round, and out of 217 there are 44 items are eligible for the second round screening, including 11 items of electronic information products, 10 of machinery products, 11 of toy products, and 11 of given topic group.

All 44 candidate products for the second round screening will be sent to jurors for the final session via email, and there will be 27 items eventually go for the grand final. Results of second round screening will be available by August 2 on the event website.

 Intellectual property rights protection
All intellectual property rights of the entry products shall remain with the entrant designers. The Awards owns the right to exhibition, printing, publishing and promotion. All entry products will be on shown for five consecutive days in Dongguan International Conference and Exhibition Center. All entrants are reminded to apply for patent protection for your entries as soon as possible. Any visitors to the exhibition are strictly prohibited and warned against any plagiarism or infringing the intellectual property rights of any entrant.
