Announcement of the 2007 DGC Awards Open Group Given Topics

With its commitment to better prepare the Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Awards in pioneering and promoting the Dongguan local industries upgrading process, the 2007 DGID Awards Organizing Committee has created a brand new entry category - the Flagship Product of the Dongguan Local Enterprises. With the joint efforts of Dongguan Municipal Sci-Tech Bureau and Dongguan Sci-Tech Promotion Center, after one-month research and study, the two most recognized enterprises have been selected out from almost one hundred local enterprises in Dongguan. Afterwards, the four parties worked out the 2007 DGID Open Group Given Topics together.

Innovative Design and Leading Dongguan – Harmonious, Agreeable, and Sustainable
Harmonious – design represents a live philosophy that always centered on human values, dignity, capacity, and needs; stresses balance among human being, machine, and environment to promote the harmonious development of the whole society.
Agreeable – design expresses the human-friendly experiences that human are interfaced with machine, creating bright, free and pleasant style.
Sustainable – design respects the independent identity of nature, symbolizes the social commitments to the human community and the environment, and thus strives to maintain the sustainable co-existence and mutual dependence for existence between human and the nature.

Submission Process & Product Requirements for Open Groups
1. By submitting an entry, the entrant warrants and represents that it is his/her original work (without infringement of any third party), that the entry work is free of any three party’s rights, that no previous publication of the entry material via the press, magazines, website, or other media, that no previous submission to any competition or awards, or no commercialization there-in.
2. The Awards Organization Committee assumes that all information provided on the official entry form are true, accurate and legal, and is not responsible for any incorrect information provided on entry forms that misrepresents the original ideas, including but not limited to the copyright of original ownership of ideas and the entrant personal data. Projects are required to submitted electronically via the online downloadable submission form @ http://dongguan.dolcn.com, and email this form to dgcawards@vip.163.com.
3. Each piece of entry work is required to be in 2 pieces of A1-sized drawing, including the subject, colorful effective drawing, basic physical dimensions, and references in Chinese and English. It is strongly recommended that the submission of a front view plus a breakdown one, without any references representing the entrant’s private information, e.g. any words or graphics indicating his/her working place, names (including the abbreviation of English name or Pinyin letters). The entrant is required to submit quality images of entry project in A1 size (594mm×841mm) JPG file, defined as 300dpi with the vertical typeset page layout. Submission of entry materials can via email or disc by mailing services. By sending the submission email or mailing out the disc, the applications are finalized and cannot be altered at any later time.
4. Models of all entry work will be made under coordinated arrangements by the Awards Organization Committee. All entrants are required to submit detailed size and computer 3D solid model, which is one-to-one scale high-accuracy prototype. If the submitted work size is too big, it will be scaled down to an appropriate size.

Intellectual Property Rights
To create an open, fair and impartial competitive environment, with respect and protection of intellectual property rights of the entrants, the Awards Organization Committee assumes each entrant respectively enjoys the intellectual property rights of his/her own work. The Awards Organization Committee reserves the right to exhibit print, and publicize the entry work. Without the permission of work owners, no copying by any other individuals or enterprises is allowed. The products should not be shown or publicized. Meanwhile, designers have obligations to protect the intellectual property rights of all entry work.

Judging Criteria:
Creativity (40%): Being innovative; Best illustrate the designer’s imagination and capability of trouble-shooting
Technology (30%): Best embody and feature application of new materials and know-how
Aesthetics (20%): Best reveal interpretation of cultural backgrounds and contemplation of aesthetics
Presentation (10%): Best present the entry work, layout and fully express the entrant’s ideas

Ⅵ. Competition Content in Enterprise Group
Goal: to celebrate all the innovative design achievements and the contributions of local enterprises and designers.

Product Design Categories for Enterprises Group:
No specific limit on products of enterprises group. All products which can meet the requirements of the Awards, including but not limited to electronic information, furniture, toy, machinery, shoes, medical equipment. All entry projects are required to have been product-formed in the last 2 years (from April 2005 till now), with supporting documents by the respective manufacturing enterprises and no infringement of any third party.

Eligibility:
Enterprises MUST be located in Dongguan. Or, if submitted by individual designers, valid supporting document by respective enterprises is a MUST.
Awards for Enterprises Innovation:

Submission Process & Product Requirements for Enterprises Group
1. By submitting an entry, the entrant enterprise warrants and represents that it is his/her original work (without infringement of any third party), that the entry work is free of any three party’s rights. The entry product must have been put into production since 1 April, 2005, with application by the enterprises located in Dongguan.
2. The Awards Organization Committee assumes that all information provided on the official entry form are true, accurate and legal, and is not responsible for any incorrect information provided on entry forms that misrepresents the original ideas, including but not limited to the copyright of original ownership of ideas and the entrant personal data. Projects are required to submitted electronically via the online downloadable submission form @ http://dongguan.dolcn.com, and email this form to dgcawards @vip.163.com.

The juries will select 25 qualified winning products and 5 Enterprises Innovation Awards winning projects in this group to showcase in the outstanding products exhibition. innovation prizes should provide the models or actual products for the show of the exhibition. All 5 Enterprises Innovation Awards winning enterprises are required to provide sample product or actual product for the showcase.

Ⅶ. Rules for Both Open and Enterprises Groups:
1. By submitting an entry, the entrant warrants and represents that it is his/her original work (without infringement of any third party), that the entry work is free of any three party’s rights. If there is any infringement, or illegal copying, the entrant bears the full responsibilities there in. The Awards Organization Committee reserves the right to cancel the entrant’s qualification in case of infringement or illegal copying occurs, withdraw all the awards, trophy and prizes.
2. The Awards Organization Committee reserves the rights to accept or refuse any entry application. Due to special events or occurrences, the Awards Organization Committee has the rights to revise the judging criteria.
3. The entrants warrant no illegal claim under any form to the Awards Organization Committee.
4. If no suitable project can meet the requirements for the awards above, the Awards Organization Committee reserves the right to keep vacancies for the nomination.
5. Any disputes arising out of the selection results will be subject to the final judging results.
6. The Awards Organization Committee reserves the final authority for interpretation of every events or details.

Ⅷ. Special Interest Group Meeting:
To provide a rare opportunity for the winning entries and local business resources, the special interest group meeting is dedicated to help the outstanding projects and excellent designers to maximize their value in supporting the enterprises, esp. the innovative industries and manufacturing communities in Dongguan.
