Winners will be published in HOW¡¯s International Design Annual, the April 2004 issue. All winning entries will be featured, and each winning designer will receive a frameable certificate, a copy of the April issue and a $50 discount toward registration for the 2004 HOW Design Conference. One Best of Show Winner will be profiled in HOW magazine, and will be our guest at the 2004 HOW Design Conference. (Round-trip airfare, hotel and Conference registration paid by HOW magazine.)

WHAT¡¯S ELIGIBLE?
Any original graphic design project created between Jan. 1, 2002 and Sept. 1, 2003.

WHO¡¯S ELIGIBLE?
Graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, etc., from anywhere in the world.

WHO¡¯S JUDGING?
Competition winners will be selected by these internationally recognized jurors:
Peter Borowski is the vice president and creative director for FRCH Design Worldwide, a retail design firm in Cincinnati, OH. FRCH
develops brand image strategies, buildings, retail environments and graphics for a range of Fortune 500 companies.

Moira Cullen is corporate design manager for Hallmark Cards¡® in-house corporate design group in Kansas City, MO. Her team focuses on brand development, corporate collateral and marketing services for the Hallmark brand.

Petrula Vrontikis is the author of inspiration=ideas, and is also the creative director of Los Angeles-based Petrula Vrontikis Design Office, established in 1989.

The firm creates catalogs, identity programs, posters, brochures and more for a diverse client base.

Designs may be entered in more than one category;
submit a separate sample, entry form and fee for each category. Judges reserve the right to recategorize entries;
to create new categories, if appropriate; and to withhold place awards if they see fit.

THE DEADLINE
All entries must be postmarked by September 15, 2003.

HOW TO ENTER
1. Send two well-protected samples. Entrants for the Wearables and Packaging categories need submit only one sample. Slides must accompany entries for Packaging, any 3D objects and Wearables, or they will be disqualified. Environmental Graphics entries should submit slides only (maximum of three slides per entry). Video entries will no longer be accepted in the advertising category. Please submit them in the motion design category of HOW¡®s Interactive Design Competition.

2. Type or print your entry form. Entries accompanied by illegible forms will be disqualified. Fill out the form completely. This information will be reproduced in the magazine exactly as submitted if you are selected as a winner.

3. Make three legible photocopies of your completed entry form. Firmly attach one copy to the back of each sample, and include two copies with your payment.

4. Be certain to credit all persons involved in the creation of the piece. HOW will not be responsible for incorrect or incomplete credit information.

5. (Optional) Describe the objective and results of your entry in 100 words or less and attach description to entry form.

OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF
• Winning entrants grant HOW the right to reproduce slides, transparencies or digital images in the 2004 International Design
Annual. Some winning entries may also appear on HOW¡¯s Web site, for promotional purposes only.
• HOW assumes all entries are original and are the works and property of the entrant, with all rights granted therein. HOW is not liable for any copyright infringement on the part of the entrant.
• If you wish to be notified of the receipt of your entry, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped postcard.
• HOW will notify winners by mail by March 5, 2004, after judging is complete. No entries will be returned.

Campaign: $50 (A campaign is three or more pieces in a single project)
STUDENTS
Single Piece: $20 Campaign: $30

PAYMENT INFO
Make checks payable (in U.S. funds, drawn on a U.S. bank) to HOW International Design Competition. Payment must accompany entries. Entries received without payment will be disqualified. Entry fees are nonrefundable. One check may be used to cover multiple entries if all entries are submitted in the same package.

When paying by credit card, be sure to complete the credit card information requested on the entry form. Charge will appear as ¡°F&W Contests.¡±
