Overwhelming Participations Round-off the Preliminary Screening of 2006 Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Awards
Overwhelming participations round off the preliminary screening of 2006 Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Awards at 5pm, July 8, 2006. After extensive promotion and efficient organization, our event has received warm responses and welcome from home and abroad, and the organizing committee has handled over 3,000 enquiries over phone and the Internet, which fully demonstrated the high degree of concern from domestic and overseas designers. It ended up the call for entry by July 1 with up to 2378 items of projects on world wide scale, among which 2039 items had been taken as qualified entries, i.e. 1097 items of electronic information products, 416 items of machinery products, and 526 items of toy products.
In the preliminary screening session, we had 7 jurors with us, and they are (In Alphabetical Order):

The session was located at No. 2 Conference Room, 8th Fl, Library Hall of GDUT and started with the keynote speech by Principal ZHANG Kun and the representative of Dongguan Sci-Tech Bureau. With the established fair, open and transparent criteria, there had been 256 items selected out of 2039 candidates. Among those, there were 122 items of electronic information products, 50 machinery products, and 84 toy products, all of which will be in the process of second round screening during July 11 - July 20.
We can see a rapid expansion in terms of sources and scope covered by this Awards compared with the previous session of Dongguan Cup Awards. Among the entrants, apart from many famous universities, vibrant research institutes, and excellent individuals from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, there are entrants from the U.S, the U.K., Italy, Algeria and Singapore, etc. Therefore, the entrants projects are achieving better quality and mature this event into a more competitive one.
The process of call for entry of the open group, 2006 Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Awards, comes to a pause now, while the submission deadline for enterprise group comes at Aug. 15. In order to have the local enterprises stipulated and mobilized with the idea of self-innovation in theme of industrial design, this Awards embraces 5 Enterprise Innovation Awards, and the winning parties along with the winning entries will be on show Sept. 21 - Sept. 24 in the Dongguan International Conference and Exhibition Center.
