Innovative Design and Leading Dongguan ¨C Scientific, Beautiful and Cheerful
Science and technology can promote human civilization development Dongguan follows such a coherent policy of enhancing industrial development through high and new technology so as to improve people¡¯s living standard. The more advanced the human being is, the more active the pursuit of beauty will be. Industrial design is just attempt to combine science and technology with sense of beauty in industrial products, which would undoubtedly bring the users mental and physical delight and comfort, and create a harmonious society and economic prosperity.
This competition focuses on innovation, breakthrough in tradition, and application of new technologies and materials.
IV. Competitive Content in Open Groups
(A) Product Design Category:
1. Electronic information products¡ª¡ªto make products more beautiful through design,, so as to make life more colorful, and products more enjoyable and comfortable;
2. Machinery products ¡ª¡ªreasonable modal design, applications of new technologies and materials to make people¡¯s work more relaxed, more enjoyable and more efficient.
3. Toy Products¡ª¡ªcreative design and applications of new technologies and materials, to educate in happiness, explore children¡¯s intellects, and have the users (children and adults) get pleasure, knowledge and communication in playing the games.

(D) Competition Schedule of Open Groups:
Deadline of products collection: 30 June, 2006
Preliminary competition and result announcement: 3¡ª10 July, 2006 (with 250 products for the second competition)
Second round competition and result announcement: 10¡ª15 July, 2006 (with 30 products for the final competition)
Model making (with 30 products for the final competition): 15 July¡ª15 September, 2006
Model Delivery
Models must be delivered to the Organization Committee before 17:00 on 18 September, 2006, if the contestants cannot present themselves at the competition. Contestants should guarantee the safety of their products delivery. The Organization Committee would not be responsible for any damage in the process of mail delivery.

(E) Competitive Ways and Product Requirements of Open Groups
1. The competitive products must be original (no infringement of the third party¡¯s intellectual property rights), and not be publicly issued on any newspaper, magazine, website or other media, not have attended any competition, and not have been commercialized.
2. The contestants should fill in the application form truly, and email it as attachment together with the competitive products to the email box of the competition. The organizational committee will confirm it. Email address: dgbawards@vip.163.com. Please see the special website for online material submission and application form download.
3. Each piece of competitive work should be in 2 pieces of A1-sized drawing, including the subject, colourful effective drawing, basic physical dimensions, and notes in both Chinese and English. It is better to submit a front view and a breakdown one, without any notes about the unit, contestants¡¯ names (including the abbreviation of English or Pinyin letters). The document format should be JPG, A1 size (594mm¡Á841mm ), with the resolution factor: 300dpi. And, the page layout should be vertical typeset. Competitive work drawings should be submitted via email, or disc by mail, which should not be revised any more after the submission.
4. The Organization Committee provides each of the 30 designers with ¥5,000 for the model making, who are qualified for the final election. The designers should make a 1:1 precise model. As for some other models with larger size, they can be reduced according to the proportion, but without smaller than 60 cm *60 cm *60cm. Not providing the models are regarded as a waiver.
(F) Composition of Judges
Preliminary Competition: Hong Kong, Macao and Chinese mainland experts
Second round competition: foreign, Hong Kong, Macao and Chinese mainland experts
Final competition: foreign, Hong Kong, Macao and Chinese mainland experts

(G) Intellectual Property Rights of the Competitive Products
To create an open, fair and justice competitive environment, and respect and protect the intellectual property rights of the contestants, all of the intellectual property rights of the competitive products belong to the designers. The organization committee of the competition has the rights of exhibiting, printing, and publicizing the competitive products. No copying by any other units or individuals, without the agreement of the designing units or individuals. The products should not be shown or publicized. Meanwhile, designers have obligations to protect the intellectual property rights of the products.
(H) Competition Process:
Preliminary competition: 250 products to be preliminarily selected from the submitted ones.
Second round competition: 30 products to be selected from the 250 ones.
Final competition: The gold, silver, braze and outstanding prizes to be made in categories with models, design drawings and alive presentation of contestants. Designers can use ppt or multi-media documents in their presentation. The ones that cannot present at the competition should submit the effective DVD, VCD and MPG materials in stead.
(I) Election Standards:
Innovation Factor: The products should be of innovative, showing the imagination and problem solution capability of the designers (40% of the total score)
Technological Factor: The designs should consider application of new materials and technologies, and the reflection in outside form (30% of the total score)
Aesthetic Factor: The designers should show by their products the understanding and aesthetic ideas of the cultural background (20% of the total score)
Presentation Factor: The design conception of the contestants should be shown fully by the products, format and statement (10% of the total score)
V. Competitive Content in Enterprise Groups
(A) Product Design Categories for Enterprises Groups:
There is no specific limit of the product design categories for enterprises groups. All of the products of electronic information, furniture, toy, machinery, shoes, medicine, etc. that coincide with the requirements of the industrial design competition are acceptable. However, the products must be the ones that were industrialized in recent 2 years (from April 2004 up to now), without any dispute on intellectual property rights, and with the relevant certificates of the manufacturers.

(C) Contestants of Company Groups: Contestants should be the enterprises in Dongguan, with industrialized products in recent 2 years (from April 2004 up to now) for competition, showing the relevant certificates of their industrialized manufacturers.

1. The competitive products must be of the self R&D ones of the companies (no infringement of the third party¡¯s intellectual property rights), must be the ones put into production after 1 April, 2004, being applied by the companies in Dongguan City.
2. The contestant companies should fill in the application form truly, and email it as attachment together with the competitive products to the email box of the competition. 3. All of the 30 products will be shown at the outstanding exhibition. And, the companies win the 5 company innovation prizes should provide the models or actual products for the show of the exhibition.

(G) Competition Process:
The competition committee will elect 25 enterprise products qualified for the final competition and 5 enterprise innovation prizes.
VI. Rules for Both Open and Company Groups for the Competition:
1. The contestants must guarantee that the originality of competitive products. The contestants should bear the full responsibilities if right infringement or copying is found. The organization Committee has the rights to cancel the contestants¡¯ qualification if right infringement or copying activity is found, and confiscate the awards at any stage of the competition.
2. The organizer reserves the rights to accept or refuse any applications for the competition. If necessary, the organizers has the rights to revise the competition standards.
3. The contestants should pledge not to claim anything from the organizer.
4. If suitable winner cannot be elected, the organizer has the rights to make some prize vacant.
5. If there is any dispute on the election result, the final arbitration prevails.
6. The organization committee reserves the final explanation right of the competition.
VII. Services on Proposing Outstanding Products and Persons:
2005 DONGGUAN CUP INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRIAL DESIGN COMPETITION successfully promoted lots of cooperation between the outstanding contestants and companies. The 2006 outstanding products show will still invite large-, middle- and small-sized enterprises in Dongguan for the visit. Meanwhile, there will be ¡°counters for enterprises¡± during the show, bridging companies and contestants, realizing the commercialization of the outstanding designs, and providing chances for attracting talents to Dongguan enterprises.
